3 ways to fact-check your non-toxic standing and how it benefits you and the planet

A non-toxic lifestyle has become the need of the hour because of the consequences we are facing due to ‘modernization’. Our profit-centric approach to living has not only given us many health problems but has also caused irreparable damages to our planet. It is time we check our non-toxic living standing and do our bit to contribute to the health of the planet and to our own. Here are the ways to do it:

Non-toxic living: check your environment

The first thing to pay attention to is how our actions are changing our environment. Using toxic candles, room sprays, cleaning chemicals etc. may seem harmless because they have become part of our routine lives. But these have synthetic fragrances that give off dangerous VOCs (Volatile organic compound). These may cause health problems ranging from headaches and allergies to asthma attacks and even cancer.

It is best to look for alternatives made from non-toxic and all-natural oils and plant extracts, and ditch toxic chemicals.

Non-toxic living: check your clothing

The kind of clothes we wear are an important aspect of non-toxic living. Our skin is our body’s largest organ and absorbs anything we put on it, including chemicals in our clothes. Chemicals are used in every part of the textile production for making fibers, bleaching, and dyeing fabrics, etc. When they arrive in the shops, our clothes still contain a lot of chemicals including carcinogens, and hormone disruptors. These are a real danger to our health.

Always wash new clothes before using them for the first time. It is best to opt for clothing brands that are sustainable and use natural fabrics that are toxin-free and allow the skin to breathe.

Non-toxic living: check your cookware

How you prepare your food is an important aspect of non-toxic living. The food we eat directly effects our health and immunity. It is best to choose organic (non-GMO), nutritious and healthy ingredients. And more importantly, cook them in the healthiest cookware. The cookware made from toxic materials such as metals and ceramics leach and contaminate food. Eating toxic food deteriorates body organs and their functions and causes serious diseases.

It is best to choose an all-natural non-toxic cookware. MEC’s (Miriams Earthen Cookware) pure primary clay cookware is a great alternative to toxic pots. It cooks food without contaminating it. The unique far infrared heat from pure clay keeps nutrients intact and cooks food thoroughly at low heat and in less time. This is the only all-natural raw material that is tested and certified 100% non-toxic. (Read more about why MEC cooks food healthier and more nutritious). You can get MEC pot from here.

By adopting these ways to increase your non-toxic standing, you can do your part in making our planet a bit healthier while also benefitting your own health.

I hail from a small but popular city of India known as Kurukshetra, mentioned numberless times in Indian/Hindu mythology because of some amazing historical events that supposedly took place there. I have done B.Tech in Information Technology but I decided not to be a Software Engineer as my qualification would have me be because it was all such a cliché. I love to live like a free spirit and do whatever I feel like doing at any moment. I have tried to work in multiple fields but none of them was interesting enough to keep me tied-up for too long. I am a typical Freelancer. I know I am destined to achieve greatness but when and how, I don't know yet.
