Choosing the Safest Cookware – 3 Simple Steps

While the whole world is struggling with various health problems and now this pandemic, who wouldn’t want to cook in the safest cookware and equip the natural defense system of the body to fight infections? Although, when so many different cookware makers are claiming that their cookware is the safest, making the right choice becomes tricky. Here are 3 simple steps to help you choose the safest cookware

1. Check if the raw material is 100% Non-toxic

The raw material of any cookware affects the health of food cooked in it because it stays in contact with the food’s biochemicals at high heat.

All metals being innately reactive leach into food while cooking and thus, cannot make the safest cookware. The raw material must be completely inert, like pure and natural primary clay (or pure clay) so the pots and pans made from it is 100% non-toxic and safe.

2. Check if the raw material is treated with chemicals

Just because raw material is pure and non-toxic, there is no guarantee that the cookware made from it will be the safest. This is because the manufacturers often treat the raw material with toxic chemicals so cookware can be made on a large scale using mechanized processes. Even the pots and pans made from clay can be laden with chemicals that leach like metal cookware, for example ceramic cookware.

Miriams Earthen Cookware (MEC) – a US based company makes pots and pans from pure clay using age old method of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel and using bare hands to shape it into pots.

3. Check if glazes and enamels are used

Most cookware manufacturers use glazes and enamels to add color to their pots and to make them non-stick. The glazes and enamels may improve their appearance and prevent the food from sticking but they leach during cooking and contaminate food.

MEC refrains from using any chemical glazes and enamels which is evident from not just the lab tests and the alkaline baking soda test, but also from the color of their pots and pans (the color of fired pure clay), and the fact that pure clay pots become naturally non-stick when fully seasoned (used 5-6 times for cooking water based recipes).

If a cookware is made from 100% non-toxic raw material without using any chemicals, glazes or enamels, you can be sure that is the safest cookware. That’s what Miriam’s Earthen Cookware offers!
